Trees continue to grow - even during a recession
17/06/2009
In a recent article for Tidewaternews.com, Virginia-base forestry consultant Terry Godwin says there are several things the forestry industry can do to increase the value of their trees during tough economic times.
He says that experts believe the market is cyclical and is not particularly impacted by recession. He points out that trees continue to grow and add value to an investment, giving forestry investors peace of mind when the rest of their assets are nose diving.
Godwin says that reforestation can prove profitable during economic downturns and should not be avoided just because there is a recession. In fact, reforestation may be essential in order to prepare for burgeoning markets for timber such as forest carbon credits, biofuels and wood fuel.
Even in poor market conditions Godwin recommends that forestry health and value should be of paramount importance in order to maintain the value and quality of forests or when sales pick up.
Providing forests are properly maintained through a recession, investments in forestry can prove profitable, particularly when the market picks up once economic recovery sets in.
