Peregrine Energy invests million of dollars in biomass plant
24/04/2009
Peregrine Energy, an energy consulting business, has revealed plans to invest some US$135 million in developing a new woody biomass cogeneration facility which is to be located in Sonoco’s Hartsville Manufacturing Complex.
The plant, which is to be operational by autumn 2012, according to Peregrine, will employ 30 full-time employees and a further 300 construction workers during its development. The construction work is expected to begin as soon as it receives an air permit.
In addition to the jobs mentioned above, there could be as many as 110 jobs created in the region from the transportation and processing of woody biomass.
Peregrine plans to sell the electrical output from the plant to Progress Energy Carolinas Inc. It also says the low pressure steam created by the plant’s processing can be used by Sonoco for its manufacturing of recycled paperboard at the site.
